Highland Golf and Country Club was founded in 1903, and began as a 9-hole golf course at what is now Indianapolis’s municipal Coffin Golf Course. In 1919, Highland re-located to its present Indianapolis, IN location as a private 18-hole course. Highland is located in the near north-west side of Indianapolis, just north of Butler University, the Christian Theological Seminary, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and Christel DeHaan’s home and enclave. Indianapolis homes on Highlands golf course are popular with growing families and serious golfers.
Beautiful Homes on a Beautiful Golf Course
Highland Golf and Country Club’s course is delightful and complements the beautiful Highland course with its mature trees; the trees can present a challenge if one’s ball leaves the fairway. Its greens are as smooth as a billiard table. It is a beautiful course. The clubhouse is very nice for card games, weddings, and evening meals. The club also has an outdoor swimming pool and tennis courts. For relaxing, friendly golf in Indianapolis, life on a golf course home on Highland would be ideal.
Variety of Highland Golf Course Homes in Indianapolis
There are new and old, expensive and inexpensive homes in the neighborhoods surrounding Highland’s golf course. Because this is an older golf course, homes are either across the street from or in the neighborhood near the golf course. An advantage from a golfer’s perspective of a golf course not having houses along each fairway is the peace, privacy, and tranquility that it adds to the game of golf. Looking at a map of Indianapolis, you can see that the eastern portion of the course is adjacent to (and on a cliff above) the White Water river. Some of the homes south of the golf course have a skyline view of the city, as well as overlooking White River. The area is served by the highly acclaimed Washington Township school system.
Upscale Highland Golf Course Homes
One up-scale home for sale in early 2012 sits on a quiet street on 1.7 acres across from Highland golf course. The home features 4 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 3 fireplaces, a 3 car garage, a solarium, new slate roof and gutters, in a 6,900 square foot maisons de maître style home. This home has a beautifully landscaped backyard. This is quite an elegant home for a golf community, as are many of the homes sandwiched between the south side of Highland golf course and the White River.
Of the 72 Highland golf course homes in Indiana that sold in the last decade, the prices ranged from $900,000 to $100,000 and the total square footage ranged from 7,600 to 1,400 square feet.
